Great news for all water sport fans: The 13th edition of the largest kitesurfing event in the world will be held next year from August 24th to September 2nd on the south beach of Fehmarn. In order of that, Fehmarn will be for the third time in a row the venue of the only Kitesurf World Cup in Germany. “I am very happy that we have landed the hattrick with Fehmarn and are allowed to visit our fantastic island for the third time after the premiere in 2016. The short distances, the perfect logistics and the great cooperation with those responsible have ensured a smooth running of the Mercedes-Benz Kitesurf World Cup the last two years”, explains Matthias Neumann, Managing Director of the organizing agency ACT AGENCY from Hamburg, after the appointment Announcement and adds: “It’s great to be able to continue presenting this trendy sport to the public on Fehmarn.”
In the last year 100.000 visitors came to the south beach of the Baltic Sea island. All of them saw fantastic flight deposits and fast-paced races of the best kite surfers in the world. In addition to the official World Cup competitions, the competitors from 19 different nations presented a great show for the crowd. Be it in the Obstacle-Parcour or during windless conditions where the athletes used jetskis to fly 20 meters into the sky. The German Florian Gruber circumnavigated Fehmarn in “Race around the Island” in 1:43 hours, setting a new record.
Fehmarn Tourism Director Oliver Behncke: “We experienced a great and varied Kitesurf World Cup this year, which was very positive for the external presentation of Fehmarn. The media contacts have almost doubled in comparison to 2016, about our island was reported nationwide in the course of the event. The cooperation with ACT AGENCY was very good, I am sure that will be the same again next year.”
